WINEMAKER
Morgan Beck's journey into winemaking is anything but conventional. Growing up in Colorado, she initially pursued a degree in Finance before discovering her love for wine. After earning an Enology & Viticulture certificate in Argentina, Morgan fell in love with Pinot Noir, which inspired her to chase harvests around the globe.
Eager to deepen her expertise in organic and biodynamic viticulture, Morgan spent several growing seasons with a vineyard management team in Sonoma and Napa. Upon returning to the cellar, she embraced 'low-manipulation' winemaking techniques, finding her true calling in Oregon. The quality and expression of the fruit she encountered solidified biodynamic practices as the foundation of her winegrowing philosophy.
Morgan joined the Johan team in 2015 and stepped into the winemaker position in 2018. While always working towards a holistic/regenerative system, Morgan’s goal is to share the story of the growing season, the place, and the people behind the wines each year when guiding the wines from grape to bottle.
VINEYARD MANAGER
Nathan Wood has a lifelong love affair with grapevines. Growing up in the vineyards of Rutherford, CA, alongside his father and grandfather, he developed a passion for winemaking that took him around the globe over a decade-long career.
After earning a spot with some of the most respected vineyard crews in California and honing his skills as a field worker (and yes, it takes a lot of squats to sucker an acre of grapevines), Nathan developed a passion for integrative management and holistic agriculture. His inspiration stems not just from his family heritage as a farmer but also from his extensive experience working in wineries. Nathan understands that the ability to tell a story through wine starts in the vineyard. He lives by the ethos that there is always more to learn, always something to fix, and the most important aspect of all is to do so with passion and integrity in the presence of people and places that inspire.
Always the dedicated field worker, you will often find Nathan either playing in the mud, on a tractor, or looking for lambs to pet.
ASSISTANT WINEMAKER
Beth Herron’s passion for wine began in Boston, where she managed bars and restaurants and developed a love for food, wine, and hospitality. After earning her WSET Level 3 certification, Beth moved to Oregon to work harvest and quickly fell in love with the Willamette Valley’s vibrant wine community.
Her commitment to sustainable winemaking deepened during her time with a biodynamic producer in Hungary, where she gained hands-on experience and a greater appreciation for environmentally conscious farming. Beth joined Johan in spring 2023 as a Cellar Hand and Tasting Room Associate, sharing her cellar work with guests and learning from Winemaker Morgan Beck. Promoted to Assistant Winemaker in January 2024, Beth continues to bring enthusiasm and dedication to Johan’s biodynamic winemaking team.
